I was with AAA for some 10 years before I switched to 21st Century Insurance. The only reason I switched was it was about $65 cheaper...

I should have never switched...

One day I was at a friends office, helping her with computer problems and the conversation came around to car insurance. My friend said she was with 21st and I said I was with AAA. I have never had a problem with AAA so her suggesting that I try a cheaper car insurance didn't appeal to me.

We one statement after another and she convinced me that I should switch. So, I called the 21st main number and a rep calls me back. After going over the coverage I decided to switch. Man was that a mistake. I should have known something was up when the rep wanted my credit card number for the first payment. She said it was an act of good faith... I did and she told me my payments would start in September 2002, about a month and a half away.

When the payment was due, I sent it off via my online banking service. I sent it off and the register said it got there. After about 2 weeks I got a late notice in the mail from 21st Century. I called and asked what was up. The rep told me that (duh) they didn't get my payment. I said that my register said they did and the ineptitude started to flow. In the next few weeks I sent faxes and letters and made several phone calls to 21st Century, my bank, and CheckFree the guys who are responsible for the flow of payments.

I called 21st Century and said that according to my information, they have a online relationship with my bank and CheckFree and they did have my money. 21st Century was adamant that they didn't have a online relationship with anyone. That was lie No. 1. 21st Century is not to good at lie, thou I will give them credit for trying...

So, 21st Century tells me to send them some sort of proof that I paid them. I told them that my proof was my online statement. They said this wasn't enough. So, (and I am making this a very short story here folks) I called my bank and got them involved. The bank talked to CheckFree (CheckFree wont talk to me) and they did some research and presented the proof to 21st Century.

Tonya, the "supervisor" of customer service at 21st Century, called me on 11.26.02 to tell me that there was a mistake made and that the payments went to another account. I questioned Tonya about this. I said if that were true, how come that didn't raise a red flag somewhere in the system? She said, that that wouldn't. Apparently, their computer system is running on an old TRS-80 from 1979 I guess.

Well Tonya thinks this is the end of it, but I have to tell you it isn't. I'm writing letter to the Insurance boards, BBB, and anything else I can find to notify others and the Insurance Commission that not only do the customer service people not know what they are doing, but the accounting system setup and running at 21st Century must have been installed by the Enron techs!

My advice, don't do business with these monkeys.

Mike
